World Series of Bowling V: A Great Story

The fifth annual edition of the World Series of Bowling really showed the amazing ability for bowlers to entertain. Like any great drama the stage had been set, the cast of characters was deep, the suspense built, & the ending theatrics were not to disappoint.

The stage of course was the South Point Bowling Center*. This facility has quickly become the most important 64-lanes in all of bowling. Knowing & mastering the characteristics of this house can make or break your entire year.

The cast of characters was deep. The 21-year-old rising star, the girl showing she can hang with the boys, the ex-NFL superstar, the bevy of world traveling international players, the 30-somethings hitting their prime, the 51-year-old, 135 lb Goliath, and not to be outdone, the 59-year-old showing everyone he’s still got it.

To the rest of the world it was just a week, but inside the South Point this was a season. Depending on your week the time may have flown or may have dragged. Depending on your state of mind it could feel like a series of sprints or a marathon. One thing is for sure, the more games you bowled the better. The WSOB gives everyone an opportunity to start fresh each day but also rewards consistency. Some players took full advantage of their favorite pattern while others showed slow and steady was the path to success.

Whether it was a 14-game, 1-day event or a 52-game, 6-day event, the final deciding game each day was full of suspense. The pressure building throughout the events, the long days and sore bodies, the hard work & dedication coming to fruition. Yet under all of these circumstances, the performances against adversity at the 2013 World Series of Bowling were nothing short of spectacular. The best of the best bring that to the table, the will & desire to compete and succeed.

Knowing that it is all on the line and knowing it’s their time to shine.

The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat. Keeping us all on the edge of our seat.

Some will rise and some will fall, but the story, the story is the most intriguing part of all.

*Mike Monyak and his staff at the South Point do a fantastic job of hosting the WSOB each year and without them these displays of greatness would have no stage. The bowlers  appreciate all that South Point does and are greatly anticipating the opening of the South Point Bowling Arena in 2015.
